LendAPI is proud to attend OLA Tribal Lending Conference second year in a row. We will be connecting with tribal leaders to further causes in economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and technological modernization.

The Evolution of Tribal Lending – A Path to Economic Sovereignty
President Richard Nixon signed various legislation during his presidency and one of the most historic relating to Native American sovereignty is Indian Self-Determination Act. This act amongst many other legislation passed in the mid 1970s gave Native Americans more power and more rights to develop their governance, economy and education.
From gaming to e-commerce to banking and finance, many Native American tribes have established multi-billion dollar enterprises to uplift their members from abject poverty to economic powerhouses.
In fiscal year 2024 (published in 2025), Indian countries combined Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of $43.9 billion dollars. It’s an all time record and pushed Indian Gaming to a new stardom that can no longer be ignored.
Indian gaming profit isn’t your typical corporation focused solely on share holders. 100% of the tribal gaming profit goes back to fund schools, clinics and infrastructure.
Indian countries are aggressively diversifying from their gaming sector. Tribes in Michigan in 2024 have generated over $1.24 billion dollars of non-gaming revenue, representing a 330% growth over the past five years.
Total Tribal GDP is hard to calculate over 574 tribes but regional studies have shown that tribal nations contribute billions to the U.S. GD. In Washington state, tribes account for $7.4 billion in gross state product.
Tribal enterprises support hundreds of thousands of jobs. Oftentimes, 60% of these employees are non-native which shows that tribal economic development uplifts the entire region in terms of GDP and job creation.
Tribes also spend billions of dollars annually, just in Washington state alone, Washington tribes spent $3.6 billion to purchase goods and services from off-reservation vendors.

Some might think of Native American economic development efforts in a narrow perspective, but it’s a $44 billion economic ecosystem providing real job opportunities and economy. With the advent of tribal financial services and tribal lending, technology providers such as LendAPI can deliver value to sovereign nations at breakneck speed.
Serving the Underserved – The Mission of Financial Inclusion
Tribal Lending Enterprises (TLEs) provide essential revenue for tribal health care, education and infrastructure. The legal foundation for TLEs is Sovereign Immunity as a tool to allow tribes to govern their own economic destiny while adhering to federal consumer protection laws.
Tribal lenders often serve millions of Americans who are overlooked by traditional big banks, these underbanked sections of America have limited access to short-term liquidity and may not have perfect credit scores.
TLEs also promote financial literacy and help families bridge gaps during unexpected life events. According to studies from Clarity Services from Experian, families experience hardship every two weeks. These hardships are often caused by unexpected car repairs, veterinarian visits and unemployment or underemployment events.
Why LendAPI is Attending – Supporting the Next Generation of TLEs
We aren’t just a software vendor, we are a partner in compliance and efficiency. Our orchestration platform helps tribal lenders to stay compliant with both tribal codes and federal standards through automated rules and robust audit trials.
Our white labeling and no-code features allows tribes to launch modern, user-friendly products that rival the best fintechs in the world. We are attending OLA this year to see how we can better serve this unique community and help them scale with integrity.
We go beyond the traditional personal finance, TLEs are looking to enter into the embedded finance, BNPL and indirect financing space and our complete lending stack provides control and management to merchants, dealers, branches and brokers to allow TLEs to extend their financing reach to a massive $500b embedded finance market.
The Power of Community – Our Partners in the Space
At OLA, we will be working with a network of compliance experts and law firms specifically addressing the need of tribal economic development. The OLA Executive Policy Summit in Washington DC from April 21st to April 22nd, 2026 is a perfect example of OLA’s commitment to highlight tribal sovereignty issues to lawmakers and protect the legislation signed during the Nixon administration.
